Hôm nay chúng ta sẽ cùng nhau “gỡ rối” một chuyên đề ngữ pháp rất quan trọng trong chương trình lớp 8, đó là Câu tường thuật (Reported Speech). Dạng bài tập này thường xuyên xuất hiện trong các bài kiểm tra và thi cử, nên các em hãy chú ý nhé.
Trước khi vào giải chi tiết, cô nhắc lại 3 quy tắc vàng khi chuyển từ câu trực tiếp sang câu gián tiếp:
- Lùi một thì (Backshift tenses): Hầu hết các thì trong câu trực tiếp sẽ được lùi về quá khứ một bậc. Ví dụ: Hiện tại đơn → Quá khứ đơn, Hiện tại tiếp diễn → Quá khứ tiếp diễn, Tương lai đơn (will) → would.
- Đổi đại từ và tính từ sở hữu (Change pronouns and possessive adjectives): Thay đổi cho phù hợp với người nói và người nghe. Ví dụ: I → he/she, you → me/him/her/us/them, my → his/her…
- Đổi các trạng từ chỉ thời gian và nơi chốn (Change adverbs of time and place): Ví dụ: now → then, today → that day, tomorrow → the next day/the following day, here → there.
Bây giờ, chúng ta cùng phân tích từng câu nhé!

Giải thích: Đây là câu có cả mệnh lệnh khẳng định và phủ định.
– Mệnh lệnh khẳng định: “Shut the door” → to shut the door.
– Mệnh lệnh phủ định: “don’t lock it” → not to lock it.
– Cấu trúc đầy đủ: S + told + O + to V-inf + but + not to V-inf.
– Các đáp án a và c sai vì dùng “don’t”. Đáp án d sai vì thiếu “to” sau “shut the door”. (Lưu ý: “look” ở các đáp án có thể là lỗi đánh máy, từ đúng phải là “lock”). -

– Vế sau là giải thích lý do, ta dùng “because”. Đồng thời phải lùi thì và đổi đại từ: “I can’t understand” → “he couldn’t understand”.
– b, c dùng liên từ sai. d chưa tường thuật vế sau. -

Giải thích: Đây là câu mệnh lệnh phủ định.
– Cấu trúc: S + told + O + not + to + V-inf.
– “Don’t come…” chuyển thành “told him not to come…”.
– a sai vì giữ nguyên “don’t”. b sai trật tự từ “to come not”. c sai ngữ pháp “told to him”. -
6. Đáp án đúng là: a. He said he could see me later
Giải thích: Đây là câu trần thuật (Statement).
– Lùi thì: “can” → could.
– Đổi đại từ: “I” → he (người nói là “he”), “you” → me (giả sử anh ấy nói với tôi).
– Các đáp án còn lại không lùi thì hoặc không đổi đại từ. -

Giải thích: Đây là câu trần thuật.
– Lùi thì: “shall” khi diễn tả ý định trong tương lai ở ngôi thứ nhất sẽ đổi thành would. “think” (hiện tại đơn) → thought (quá khứ đơn).
– Đổi đại từ: “I” → she. -
8. Đáp án đúng là: d. She asked me if I was willing to travel
Giải thích: Đây là câu hỏi Yes/No.
– Cấu trúc: S + asked (+ O) + if/whether + S + V (lùi thì).
– Thêm “if” (hoặc “whether”).
– Đổi đại từ: “you” → I.
– Lùi thì: “are” (hiện tại đơn) → was (quá khứ đơn).
– Chuyển từ dạng câu hỏi về dạng câu khẳng định (đưa động từ “was” ra sau chủ ngữ “I”). -
9. Đáp án đúng là: a. He told me I should see a specialist.
Giải thích: Đây là câu trần thuật chứa động từ khuyết thiếu.
– Lưu ý đặc biệt: Các động từ khuyết thiếu như should, ought to, could, might, must, used to thường không thay đổi khi chuyển sang câu gián tiếp.
– Ta chỉ cần đổi đại từ: “You” → I.
– “He told me” là cách tường thuật phù hợp cho lời khuyên. -
10. Đáp án đúng là: a. I told my dentist that I would like an appointment the next day.
Giải thích: Đây là câu trần thuật.
– Lưu ý: “would like” là một cấu trúc chỉ sự mong muốn lịch sự, nó không thay đổi khi chuyển sang câu gián tiếp.
– Đổi trạng từ thời gian: “tomorrow” → the next day.
– Đại từ “I” giữ nguyên vì người nói đang tự tường thuật lại lời của mình. -
11. Đáp án đúng là: c. The doctor told Jim that he ought to slow down a bit.
Giải thích: Tương tự câu 9, đây là câu khuyên bảo dùng động từ khuyết thiếu.
– Động từ ought to không thay đổi.
– Đổi đại từ: “You” → he (vì bác sĩ nói với Jim).
– Đáp án c có đầy đủ cấu trúc: S + told + O + that + S + V. -
12 & 13. Đáp án đúng là: a. She said she must have slept through the alarm
Giải thích: Hai câu này giống hệt nhau.
– Lưu ý đặc biệt: Cấu trúc must have + V3/ed dùng để diễn tả một suy luận logic, chắc chắn về một việc đã xảy ra trong quá khứ. Cấu trúc này không thay đổi khi chuyển sang câu gián tiếp.
– Ta chỉ cần đổi đại từ: “I” → she.
– Đáp án d “had to have slept” là sai. “must” chỉ đổi thành “had to” khi nó có nghĩa là “phải” (chỉ sự bắt buộc ở hiện tại). -
14. Đáp án đúng là: d. The boss said I needn’t come in the next day.
Giải thích: Đây là câu trần thuật với “needn’t”.
– Động từ needn’t có thể giữ nguyên là “needn’t” hoặc đổi thành “didn’t have to”.
– Đổi đại từ: “You” → I.
– Đổi trạng từ thời gian: “tomorrow” → the next day.
– Đáp án d là đáp án thực hiện đầy đủ và chính xác tất cả các thay đổi cần thiết. Các đáp án khác đều thiếu một trong các bước chuyển đổi.
