You should say
– when it happened
– what happened
– how you felt
* “Today, I’d like to talk about a situation that made me feel quite angry.”
* “I’m going to share with you an experience that really got on my nerves.”
* “Let me tell you about a time when I lost my temper.”
PHẦN 2: Trình bày chi tiết (Details)
Đây là phần quan trọng nhất, chúng ta sẽ đi sâu vào trả lời 3 gạch đầu dòng mà đề bài yêu cầu: “when it happened”, “what happened”, và “how you felt”.
Gạch đầu dòng 1: When it happened (Khi nào nó xảy ra)
* “It happened about two years ago.” (Nó xảy ra cách đây khoảng hai năm.)
* “This was last summer, during my family vacation.”
* “It occurred a few months ago, during a particularly busy period at work.”
* “It was a typical Tuesday morning.”
Ví dụ cụ thể: “It happened about six months ago, when I was preparing for my final exams.”
* “First,” / “Initially,” (Đầu tiên,)
* “Then,” / “Next,” (Sau đó,)
* “After that,” (Sau đó nữa,)
* “Suddenly,” (Đột nhiên,)
* “Meanwhile,” (Trong lúc đó,)
* “Finally,” (Cuối cùng,)
Ví dụ: “I had been studying for weeks, and I was really stressed. I had a very important exam the next day, so I decided to go to the library to revise one last time. When I got there, I found that all the good study spots were taken. I was about to give up when I noticed a group of students playing loud music and chatting in a corner. They were completely disrupting the quiet atmosphere of the library. I politely asked them to keep their voices down, but they just ignored me. I asked again, a bit louder this time, and one of them told me to mind my own business. That’s when I started to feel really annoyed.”
Gạch đầu dòng 3: How you felt (Em cảm thấy thế nào)
* Angry (tức giận)
* Furious (giận dữ, điên tiết)
* Irritated (khó chịu, bực mình)
* Annoyed (bực bội)
* Frustrated (thất vọng, bực tức vì không đạt được điều mong muốn)
* Enraged (tức giận sôi máu)
Và cách diễn tả cảm xúc:
* “I felt a surge of anger.” (Tôi cảm thấy một làn sóng tức giận dâng lên.)
* “I was seething with anger.” (Tôi sôi sục trong cơn tức giận.)
* “I couldn’t control my temper.”
* “I felt my blood boiling.” (Tôi cảm thấy máu mình đang sôi lên.)
* “I was so frustrated that I wanted to shout.” (Tôi bực bội đến mức muốn hét lên.)
* “I felt it was unfair.”
* “My mind was racing with angry thoughts.”
Ví dụ: “At that moment, I felt incredibly frustrated and angry. I had worked so hard for that exam, and their behavior was completely disrespectful. I felt my blood boiling, and I had to force myself to stay calm. I was also disappointed because I expected everyone in the library to be considerate of others.”
* “In the end, I managed to find a quiet corner, but the anger lingered for a while.”
* “It was a really unpleasant experience, and it taught me the importance of patience.”
* “Although I was angry, I tried my best not to cause a scene.”
Here are some ideas. Notice that I answer by telling a story, and that my ideas are not ‘academic’ or ‘formal’ because it isn’t an academic topic. Study my answer carefully – it’s full of good words and phrases.
Band 9 answer:
A recent situation that made me angry was getting stuck in a traffic jam on the way to meet some friends. It was last Sunday lunchtime, and I didn’t expect there to be much traffic; people don’t work on Sundays, so the roads aren’t usually very busy.
Everything was going well until suddenly I saw a queue of cars on the road in front of me. I had no choice but to join the queue and wait to get past whatever was causing the delay. It turned out that it was caused by some roadworks, and it took me an extra 30 minutes to get past them.
Getting stuck in traffic congestion doesn’t usually make me angry, but this time it did, mainly because I wasn’t expecting it and I knew that my friends were waiting to meet me for lunch. I felt frustrated and powerless because there was nothing I could do to change the situation, and I had no idea how long I would be sitting there waiting. When I finally saw the reason for the congestion, I was relieved that I was close to getting past the roadworks, but I still felt a bit stressed knowing that I was half an hour late.
